All Hayle the Series Master
 

Sun Aug 13th saw the Hayle Sprint Distance Triathlon take place.

A cold and windyovercast day was presented to the record field of 170 athletes. The race started promptly at 0900 and the competitors swam 750m in Hayle Copperhouse Pool.

First out of the water was Neil Eddy of MBH in a time of 9:13 closely followed by Kyle Keary of MBH.

The cycle route was an  "out and back course from Hayle to Leedstown covering a distance of 21.5km. One of the early race leaders Kyle Kearey of MBH lost momentum due to a fall. Neil Eddy was soon swallowed up and overtaken by Carl Harwood of MBH and Navy Triathlete Steve Kelly.

Martin Powell of Rhondda Tri Club was first in to the run transition closely followed by series leader Carl Harwood. A fast 5K run saw the lead change and the eventual winner was Ian Taylor of Plymouth Tri club in a time of 1:14:19

In the womens race Joanna Hinde of Total Fitness Bath held her place to win in a time of 1:18:15.

Mounts Bay Harriers won the first club prize which made the hat trick for the series.

In the team event Redruth Post Office won also taking the series overall.

Prizes were presented by Charles Chillcott a stalwart triathlete and inspiration to all athletes. Charles has competed in many SW events over previous years and had to have his right leg amputated this year due to circulation problems. His beaming smile and positive outlook is motivation to all those around him and most will remember the day due to his sound words of encouragement.

In the Rick Rescorla Series which covered 3 races a Middle Distance (1900m swim 90km Bike 21km Run) Standard (1500m Swim 40km Bike 10km run) and this Sprint event (750m Swim 21 km Bike 5km run) The series was won overall by Royal Navy and Mounts Bay Harrier Tri Captain Carl Harwood in an aggregate time of 7:48:48
The womens series winner was Lisa Picton in an aggregate time of 8:51:09.
