-----release starts----- 123 athletes lined up in the lake under a beautifully sunny day. The swim consisted of 1500m in the Copperhouse Pool. The first to emerge from the swim was local triathlete and previous winner Nathan Jolly (Tri-Logic) closely followed by Guy Blackford (D+C Police). Two minutes later the lead pack exited the water. The bike route was an undulating 40km taking in Crowlas, Penzance and Helston with a fast return in to Hayle. Rich Brady (VOWTO) had a very strong bike beating all other competitors by over 2 minutes to take the lead. Nathan Jolly followed with Peter Slijlcuis (SIS) very close behind. The 10km run was to be a hot one with temperatures in the high 80’s. Rich Brady held his lead to win the event overall in 2hr01:21 covering the long climb to Connor Downs turnaround point, and the fast return to the finish. Peter Slijlcuis had an impressive run taking second spot in 2hr04:36 with Nathan Jolly third in 2hr05:30. In the womens race Helen Parkinson (Exeter Tri) dominated the race winning in a time of 2hr20:10 with Lisa Picton second with a time of 2hr24:22 and local upcoming triathlete Susie Harwood coming third 2hr37:28.
In the Team event the Devon and Cornwall Police reigned supreme in 2hr01:08
with Team Sim over 10 minutes behind with 2hr12:34.
The Mayor of Hayle was kind enough to present the Awards and many local
businesses donated good prizes from water bottles to pints of beer!
